My 4 year old is fascinated with maps. He loves to locate where he and his grandparents live on US and world maps. He also begs to examine maps to attractions we visit, like Sesame Place and Longwood Gardens. To foster his love of geography, I decided to create a DIY world map decal with my Silhouette Cameo to put above the reading nook in the boys’ shared bedroom.

DIY WORLD MAP: WALL GEOGRAPHY

This 6′ x 4′ map would have cost $100 or more from a retailer. Instead, I created it with $2 worth of white Con-Tact paper. When creating vinyl wall art, I like to use contact paper so that I can remove it without damaging my paint when I want a change in decor. To create this wall art, I used the Silhouette software to enlarged the world map shape from the Silhouette store and then I cut it out in pieces. Then, I pieced it together on the wall using transfer paper to help me line up the shapes. Within an hour, I had this awesome, cheap, large-scale wall art to decorate the boys’ beach-themed room.
