Disclosure: This post is part of the Healthy Essentials 2014 program by Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies and The Motherhood, who sent me a box of products and compensated me for my time. Opinions, experiences and photos shared here are all my own, and I hope you enjoy them.

We are huge soccer fans here at Diapered Daze and Knights. My husband, in fact, claims that he once had the World Cup Trophy in his mother’s house (I’ll let him tell the story).

Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve always played soccer, and at a young age my mother also got involved in the sport of soccer as a volunteer. It came with several fringe benefits and the opportunity to see lots of great soccer as well as participate/volunteer in a lot of major (international) soccer events in the USA like the World Cup in ’94 as well as the ’96 Olympics. In the run up to the ’94 World Cup, I volunteered to be “Striker the World Cup” and went around to events dressed as the mascot. One of my greatest moments was having the chance to meet Pele (albeit dressed as a six-foot dog) but also meeting a lot of US soccer players like Alexi Lalas (as Striker I once “danced” for Lalas’ band as part of a TV program), Tony Meola, Cobi Jones, etc. Really, I owe it to my mother, who did quite a bit for the sport of soccer not only in Maryland but also for recreational soccer on the whole.

As for how the trophy made it into my house, the story is that in 1993, as part of the marketing to create buzz stateside for the World Cup, the trophy went on a trophy tour and one of its stops was on the National Mall. Ziggy Marley and Inner Circle (think of the “Cops” theme song) played at the event which was during the day. In the evening, my mother, who, at the time was President of Montgomery Soccer Incorporated (at the time the largest youth, recreational soccer program in the country) had organized a 25 year celebration of the program. Notable MSI players include Bruce Murray and Oguchi Onyewu. At the time, the trophy traveled with a manager and a body guard, and those two individuals came back to my mother’s house to shower and clean up before the evening event. So, the trophy, like their own luggage was in my house for the hour or so in between its visit to the mall and my mother’s evening soccer event. I’m not sure the World Cup organization would be so keen to hear that story, but that’s the truth, and I’m sticking to it.

When we heard Johnson & Johnson was a sponsor of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, we were thrilled! We use Johnson & Johnson products pretty regularly – and were excited to share more information about their HEALTHY ESSENTIALS® products. When the box arrived on our doorstep, hubs immediately grabbed the red World Cup vest and wore it to preschool pick up, and I grabbed the baby shampoo because Iggy needed a bath. Here’s a picture of the other items they sent – how many of them do you use on a regular basis?
