PANTONE INSPIRED PARTY DESIGN WITH RADIANT ORCHID IN MIND

Reading time: 5 Minutes

Have you checked out Pantone’s color of the year, Radiant Orchid? It is such a lovely, rich shade of purply pink – I love it! I had the opportunity yesterday to attend an outrageously fun and to-die-for decorated Pantone inspired party hosted by one of my favorite design bloggers, Kim from Design+Life+Kids. (Have you visited her blog yet? If not, you must – if not only to drool over her photography and black and white decor expertise.)

Wait until you see the details of this event – so many wonderful ideas to help you plan a summery event. What amazed me is that the nature of the crafting and gush-worthy food made everyone at the party fast friends. Strangers from all over had tons to talk about!

I spotted Lindsey, blogger at Sisters to Sons immediately upon entering the party, and the two of us got started creating some adorable corsages with flowers, some provided by my new go-to flower delivery service, The Bouqs (post just on this company later this week!). Although Lindsey and I are both pretty crafty, apparently neither of us read directions well about applying the flowers BEFORE pinning the bracelet to our wrists, as within 2 minutes of beginning the project, she hot glued the bracelet to her wrist (ouch!) then I hot glued my pointer finger to a flower.

The resulting project was totally worth our burns though, I mean – how fabulous is this?

I may totally make these for my boys’ dates when they go the the eighth grade dance in – oh – a decade. They were sweet, girly, and comfortable, and I enjoyed wearing mine throughout the entire event.

The party had different stations set up so we could explore various products. I loved these lovely books from Quirk Books. They donated the book Cooking with Flowers to my goody basket, and I was giddy with excitement! I am growing lavender for the first time this year and really want to try cooking with it – but I had no idea where to start. I can’t wait to see the ideas offered in this book!

I have a bit a Pom-Pom fetish, too, so I will need to find a copy of Pom-Poms! featured on the top of this beautifully displayed pile of books to get some new inspiration!

We tested out Kim’s own La Siesta hammock, and then drooled over the hammock chair that was part of a giveaway at the party.

Besides being outrageously comfortable, we quickly figured out that the angle of the chair quickly erased at least 20 pounds from my body (which is still struggling to lose the baby weight). What’s not to like about that?

To prepare for drying the blankets we were to dye later on in the party, Kim had prepared clotheslines, which had sweet Minted prints hanging from them. I particularly liked this typography print:

At some point while we were exploring, Kim came over to have us try the Zoku Slush and Shake Maker. With the instructions to stir our liquid every few minutes to make a slushy, we oohed and ahhhhed as this miracle cup created a refreshing, icy drink in just minutes using the cup technology and a liquid of your choosing. My mind is spinning at the possibilities – iced coffees, iced teas, iced juice, milkshakes – all are possible in minutes with this great little gadget without the annoying clean up of a messy blender!

When I got home, I found the Zoku Ice Sphere Mold in my goody basket – at the party Kim had created the balls, enclosing extras like mint and citrus to keep drinks cool while infusing flavors. I cannot wait to give these a try at our next party!

Everyone munched on some Radiant Orchid inspired foods, like these beauties from Whipped Bakeshop,

I loved the little touches like the painted mason jar vases that made the food table so special:

Then we got down to the business of dying our picnic blankets. Armed with a variety of choices from Rit Dye, I learned the perfect combination of colors to make this year’s Pantone Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid with Rit Dye using Petal Pink and Purple dyes.

We rinsed our white blankets in warm water, and then used rubber bands to create designs before dipping them in the dye buckets. I went with an accordion design, Stephanie from Confessions of a Stay at Home Mom got really into it, creating a beautiful design the washer, Scott, aptly entitled “Jellyfish”. (Note: have you visited Steph’s blog yet? If not, stop by there, too, because she is funny, smart, and real – always a good read.)

I managed not to dye myself or my clothing Radiant Orchid, which was a success in itself.

Dye buckets were set up on the lawn for us to dye our creations.

By the end of the party, the clotheslines came alive with beautiful picnic blankets, each unique, and each beautiful.

Here’s mine!

And some of my favorite PSMMers, Kim, Lindsey, and Steph posed with me for a picture in front of the lovely dip dyed photo backdrop Kim created for the party.

Bing (#thanksbing), a sponsor for this party, left this little print in my take home basket, which I will be framing for my new black, white, gold, and light pink craft room.

To be interesting, be interested. We should all remember this and work hard to take interest in the others around us. I learned so much at the party from Kim as a designer, Lindsey as a former teacher and boy mom, and Steph as a social media maven. Thanks ladies for a lovely day!
