PIRATE AND MERMAID PARTY FOOD IDEAS

Reading time: 1 Minute

If there is one thing I love about parties, it is themed desserts. I cannot cook for the life of me, but I am an acceptable baker. With the help of Pinterest, I rounded up some cute ideas for party foods, recreated some and created a few of my own. It made for a sugary party table (odd for someone who doesn’t enjoy sweets, eh?), and left my husband saying – do you think we could add some healthy options next year? (Sigh…Yes.)

Here’s my dessert table round-up from the weekend’s party…

Clam-Shaped Cookies

Using Pepperidge Farm’s Lemon cookies, pink icing, and a yogurt-covered raisin, I recreated the clam cookies found here. My monkey fist bookend from the boys’ upcoming beach-themed bedroom makeover made a reappearance in the background…

Sushi Rice Krispie Treats

These were the most fun to make and my husband’s favorite to eat. After avoiding a near krisp-tastrophe in rolling the sushi balls, the rest was easy. The trick to rolling the balls (which I learned from my FIL) is to butter two spoons and use them to pass the rice krispie treat mixture back and forth until it is balled in the shape you want. Inspired by these beauties, my version disappeared before the end of the party.

Beach and Ocean Cupcakes (Complete with Pirate Flags)

I love creating cupcakes. This year I made cupcakes with flags (constructed from lollipop sticks, washi tape, and craft foam) and sand- and water-topped buttercream icing. The sand was constructed from a box of Nilla wafers and 3 Oreos thrown in a food processor. The water was created using this video tutorial for edible glitter. The buttercream, which was a big hit, was a simple recipe from here. Aren’t these cupcakes cute? And so simple!

Fish Butter Cookies

Pirate-Carved Watermelon Fruit Tray

I carved a classic pirate skull and bones from a watermelon (just like carving a pumpkin!) and glued a piece of fabric to cover the “eye” with an eyepatch. Yo Ho!
