I live in a house of little builders, and I am always looking for toys that will pique their interest but are a little different than what they typically see on the store shelves. For years I have shopped the unique toys created by Fat Brain Toy Co., so I was excited to see how my boys reacted to four of their newer toys!
For Your 3-9 Year Old: Twig
Gone are the wooden building blocks of old. Fat Brain Toy Co. is leading the way for young builders with their Twig blocks, a colorful and innovative set of blocks that easily entertained my three boys ages 3-9 for several hours. They liked building up and inward, by stacking the pieces inside each other to provide support.
For Your 4-9 Year Old: Dado Squares
Dado Squares are interlocking pieces that allow kids to build up and out. The boys love building with these and the interlocking pieces are super sturdy. Say you build an airplane like my boys did – you can pick it up and fly it around!
For Babies and Toddlers: Tobbles Neo
My 3 year old loved building with Tobbles Neo, though these colorful egg-like cups are appropriate for children much younger. The eggs can stack atop one another, but do not need to be perfectly balanced. Instead, kids can create wonky towers and then see if they topple!
I will be buying every baby I know the SpinAgain for the foreseeable future. All three boys were honestly fascinated with this “baby” toy. They quickly discovered that when they placed a colorful disc atop the pole and it begins to spin with speed all the way to the bottom.
This guy is fascinated by the SpinAgain, which makes me think that this will be a toy that will continue to thrill kids from infanthood through their toddler years.
What are your children’s favorite building toys? What unique ones have you found?
