I went to an old school camp, with a menu of activities and the overall philosophy that you needed to try everything at least once. So, even though a girl stuck a hook straight through her finger, I was required to fish. And even if I had the coordination of a giraffe on roller skates, I was expected to try some roller hockey.
While there were moments that seemed like torture back then, I realize the try everything culture helped me find lots of less popular sports that I did really enjoy. For instance, at camp, my girlfriends and I joined an Archery club. In college, I had regular standing matches for racquetball. And, somehow, thanks to some good friends and a crazy, passionate coach that appreciated my height, I was co-captain of my college crew team.
I have three boys, and each is into different activities. My oldest is a team sports kid. Planning his summer is like a smorgasbord of sports – a little soccer, some basketball, and lacrosse if there is time. My middle is more of a solo sport guy – bike riding and climbing are more his thing. My littlest is a tornado, but he likes running, kicking, and throwing at the moment. Point is — all kids are different. And most kids will find at least one activity on this list that is interesting to them.
Here’s our top 49 sports for kids:
- Golf – when the kids were little, we bought them a real set of golf clubs. They love to drive balls in the yard. Isn’t this Under Armour golf outfit from Kids Headquarters the cutest?
Is there anything cuter than a baby in a polo shirt?
- Soccer – My oldest is obsessed with soccer. These Under Armour sleeveless tanks are great for moving around the field.
- Baseball or Tee Ball
How cute is this baseball outfit?
- Street Hockey
- Ice Hockey
- Rock Climbing – Under Armour has tons of 80’s flashback gear for Little Kids that I love this year! I mean, if you are going to be a daredevil and climb rocks, why not wear a neon green foam finger while you do?
- Tae Kwon Do
- Roller Hockey
- Frisbee Golf
- Horseback Riding
- Four Square
- Figure skating
- Bubble Chasing
- Rowing (Crew)
- Construction Work
