Count down the alphabet as you count down to Christmas. Using an advent calendar display, change the numbers to letters and countdown to Christmas while building letter-sound correspondences.
First purchase or make an advent calendar.
Change the numbers on one of these calendars to letters and include a little gift in each of the 24 compartments that correspond with the letter. As children predict what may be in the pouch based on the letter of the day, they will be building phonemic awareness skills that will promote strong reading skills.
