A WHITE AND MODERN MASTER BATH REVEAL

A WHITE AND MODERN MASTER BATH REVEAL
Reading time: 4 Minutes

3 months have gone by and I finally (finally!) have a newly renovated, bright & white bathroom. When we bought our house, we knew the Master bath would need to be renovated eventually. I mean, the shower was barely big enough for me to lift my elbows to wash my hair – and the sink, well you can see that just wasn’t working for us on any level.

I had tried to save it at one point with some blue paint, and I am pretty sure all I did was add to the overall gaudiness of the closet sized bathroom (note, I could not even stand IN the bathroom to take these pictures).

For our renovation, we worked with an amazing contractor to knock down the wall between the master and guest bath, and build a new wall by expanding into the boys’ unusually large shared bedroom. The new guest bath pictures will come soon!

I decided on an all-white color scheme, which started with 3″ by 12″ white glass subway tiles. The entire shower is tiled with these tiles, including the ledge under the step into the shower (that was the idea of our brilliant contractor, as we were stuck on what to do there. I love it!). We added a frameless glass door with hinges. The openness of this shower makes our new bathroom look much larger than it is.

We were lucky enough to be able to install a linen closet in this bath, a luxury we certainly did not have room for before. We added a wood grain tile floor from Florida Tile (this Magnolia line in Cherry was only $2.50 a square foot – on sale because it was a batch of “off color” tile.) I sure can’t tell the difference! The bathroom, painted Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore, includes a Kohler toilet, a Pottery Barn magazine rack, and radiant heat floors. The floors have been a real treat – the bathroom is warm. without the hassle of vents on the floors.

The tub was one of our main reasons for renovating our bathroom. We like to have the option to soak if we would like. Our contractor framed out the tub with a plastic paneling that looks like wood to give it a more finished look. We added a large, tempered glass window, classic white subway tile, and a double towel rack over the tub. We added some luxurious Turkish towels and a small stool for holding bath items like soaps or a book.

We bought a Pottery Barn vanity and paired it with a 30″ by 36″ mirror. Note, the white vanity at Pottery Barn is not a bright white. You can see the difference in the picture below, but luckily it is not as noticeable in person. I thought I might have a heart attack when I first saw it though – I am color sensitive and those types of mismatches drive me crazy. The vanity light is from Restoration Hardware.

Our shower fixtures include a rain shower head and a handheld on a bar. We went with this type of bar instead of the all-in-one feature because this one allows you to turn on both shower heads at once.

Here you can see the Tere-Stone all-in-one top with a rectangular sink that we added to the vanity. It is so easy to clean and we liked the options better than the ones that came with the vanity. The faucet is Mirabelle brand.
