I’ll be honest. We could have gotten many more years of use out of our old pink guest bath. However, when we found out it was actually less expensive to demo both baths than to expand an extra 50 square feet out the back of the house, you can guess what we decided.
Because, while this bathroom was fine, it was pinkish and chintzy. And I have 3 boys who are good at breaking things.
When they tore out the floors and tub there was a hideous yellow linoleum underneath – which gave me flashbacks to the seventies. They also found the original plans to the house in the wall, so that was sort of cool.
With three boys and guests in and out, we wanted a masculine, modern, and functional space. I am excited to share with you what we came up with!
The bathroom floor is tiled in wood-grain gray Florida Tile and includes radiant heating underneath. It is so inviting and hides all of the dirt my boys bring into the space. The vanity is from Home Decorators and gives lots of storage for our boys at an affordable price.
We had the mirror custom made for the space and added two sconces on sale from Restoration Hardware. A framed free Batman printable hangs next to the mirror, with a spray painted mat and a white IKEA frame. A metal tile backsplash complements the black granite countertop.
One of my must haves for the bathroom was there hooks where the boys could individually hang their towels. However, my (very patient) contractor had to cut through the hall wall to create a stable surface behind the wall to drill them into – the streamlined look and functionality were definitely worth it.
When the boys turn the corner to use the toilet, they have this rhino staring back at them. It adds a little quirky fun to the room, and channels my love of modern, eclectic styling.
