#1 – Fire Dog Favors
I found these great plush fire dogs on Oriental Trading that were a huge hit with the pint-sized party guests. I was inspired by the blogger who first got me into reading blogs (Beth Anne from Heir to Blair – if you haven’t read her yet, you must). For her son’s 2nd birthday, she had an adorable basket of stuffed monkeys as favors. I loved it. I had to “copy” her idea…sans monkeys of course (as monkeys and fire trucks just don’t seem to go together).
The dogs were high quality for a great price. And to see the little ones hugging their new adopted pets – priceless!
#2 – The Forgotten Favor
I had stocked up on Mercer Mayer’s Going to the Firehouse last fall when the books went on super sale in Scholastic’s Teacher Store. Except, I forgot to give them to the kids. So, lots of Owen’s friends will have these books slipped in with their birthday gifts this year… I always try to give a book as a favor, but I totally blanked on passing them out! Oops.
I constructed a fire hydrant by taping together a piece of Quick Tube (from our local Ace Hardware), four ribbon spools, a paper mache bowl, the lids of four squeezable baby pouches, and a toilet paper roll. I spray painted the entire operation red and voila – our own personal fire hydrant (that now has a home in Buddy’s room).
#4 – Fire Badge Sign
A painted cardboard sign to mark our front door…
#5 Garland from Scrapbook Paper and a Drawing of a Fire Truck
I loved the simplicity of the table decorations.
#6 A Polka Dotted Table Cloth
I upcycled a piece of yellow fabric that hung on a classroom bulletin board by cutting it to the perfect size for a table runner. I painted a jar lid with white fabric paint and used it to stamp polka dots all over the fabric! Sooooo easy.
#7 ‘Pinspired’ Balloon Decorations
Don’t have Helium on hand? Hang some balloons upside down from your ceiling. Same effect, minus the cost.
