Here’s another sneak peek at the progress happening in the family office. The inspiration for the accents for the color scheme (white and black with neon orange, neon yellow, and neon blue accents) camp from this piece of art my son came home with from camp one day. I mean, when I saw the 12″x16″ scrap of fabric I KNEW I needed to hang it in my home.
My 5 year old told me he made this art by painting on a wet piece of white fabric. Then, he said they laid leaves, twigs, and other objects from nature on it. I think that’s what gives it the amazing texture.
I had found an old IKEA frame I had painted red and popped the fabric under the mat just to see if it fit. I had fully intended on repainting the frame, but then, I looked at it and thought the red was fun, fresh, and totally unexpected. It is staying. (And I painted their work chairs to match in Rust-Oleum Colonial Red to bring red in somewhere else in the room).
The clock I found at Target and I loved the white face (but the frame was a powdery blue). I have been lusting after the neon of Kristen Taekman’s kitchen wall clock on RHONY, but I couldn’t figure out where to get one! So, I made my own, smaller version using Krylon Fluorescent Yellow spray paint. The clock was super simple to take apart (just a couple screws), and I covered the face with paper so I could spray the clock hands without damaging the face. The rest of the room is coming together, in vibrant neon colors, and classic whites and blacks that ground the room with the style of our house.
Stay tuned for more room updates soon!
