The boys’ beach-themed bedroom is coming together slowly, but surely. Instead of posting their names in the room with the actual “letters”, my husband had the idea to look up the letters of the boys’ names in nautical signal flag code and hang them over the beds instead.
After identifying each of the letters of their names, I cut colored canvas and sewed it together to make the appropriate designs on the flags. I used duct tape to tape the flags to the boat rope (because it was easy to rearrange on a longer or shorter rope if I ever decide it is necessary), and tied a small knot at each end of the rope before nailing the buntings to the wall.
I think they are a cute addition to the room, and the boys love knowing the “secret” code to their names. I just hope I interpreted the code correctly: Just like they tell you not to wear a foreign language tattoo in a country where that is the majority language (for fear you’ll find out your “I love my husband” tattoo actually says something totally weird like “I am infatuated with milk”), I probably shouldn’t share my flags with true sailors.
