Family Scrabble Display {From Mom’s Den}

I get my crafty streak from my Mom.  My poor husband is often stuck listening to us chatter on about paint colors and fabrics and other random craft madness.  For a couple years my mom has talked about adding a family game room theme to her downstairs decor.  Over the next week I will share some of the details of her room – starting today with a Scrabble board display for over the couch.

Mom wanted to fill out the Scrabble board with words that describe our family, but she wasn’t sure about what to use as a backdrop.  While she was walking through Home Goods she stumbled across the wood used in the backdrop in the clearance bin for $14.  Originally the wood had a large metal Eiffel Tower attached and french writing in black, so Mom removed the tacky tower and sanded down the wood so that the black lettering disappeared.  Looks great, doesn’t it?  I especially love the 3D effect of the tile holders and the letter bag.
