My boys have waited ever so patiently for October 28th. No, not October 31. Although Halloween is a favorite day of the year, they had been counting the days until the release of Skylanders Academy on Netflix since the announcement first came out in late Spring.

Skylanders Academy

My 5 and 7 year olds are such incredible Skylanders fans, and have played (and completed) previously released Skylanders games from Giants to SuperChargers. I bet you can guess what tops their holiday wish list this year! Yep, Skylanders Imaginators is the ONLY must-have thing on their list this year.

So, Netflix, in all of their genius, perfectly matched the excitement of the Skylanders game with a funny, family-friendly show – with beautiful graphics and a fun story line. At Skylanders Academy, the up-and-coming heroes are training to protect the world from evil folks, like Kaos. With all of the fun of school and adventure, this show is so much fun!

Skylanders Academy

In full disclosure, the boys and I binge watched the entire season in two sittings (yes, we had finished the series within 36 hours of its release). They are going back and rewatching it now and looking for more secrets of the Skylands. I am waiting anxiously for Season 2, because this Netflix and Skylanders collaboration knocked it out of the park.

I wasn’t totally unproductive as we watched. I am in charge of favors this year for the Halloween Party in my son’s class, so as we watched, I last-minute whipped up their Halloween treat.

Class Party Favors

When I signed up to bring the Halloween party favor to my kindergartener’s class party, I knew I wanted to make something that the kids would use well beyond the holiday. I decided on black pencil bags, adorned with glow-in-the-dark heat transfer vinyl.

As an afterthought, I made a little round tag to let parents know the bags glowed in the dark. I mean, in all practicality, when do you ever need a glowing pencil bag? But it is fun and is a not-so-spooky, 90’s-inspired ode to Halloween. Now all that’s left to do is to introduce these youngsters to the pure magic that is Vanilla Ice.

Here are some tags for you to enjoy – Click the photo to download them! I printed them at 155% (size) for my tags pictured above.
