This is the first Halloween that Buddy actually understands what is going on. I’ve decided to decorate the house to get us in the spirit. I pinned some signs from PBK and I thought maybe I could make my own version. How hard could it be, right? What do you think?
Gathered up some old plywood, planks, and leftover scraps. Sand down the wood.
We painted the wood. We put a base coat of paint on the wood and then covered with a coordinating color (So if I painted the base white, I covered it with either black or orange so that when I used sandpaper to “age” it, the other color would peek through).
I printed phrases on the computer (in 300-500 point fonts), cut out the letters, and traced them onto the painted wood (Originally I planned to use the rubbing method to transfer the letters, but the rough texture of the wood made this difficult). I also did freehand drawings of Halloween images to accompany the texts.
I painted the texts and images in colors that contrasted with the background colors. Once the paint dried, I lightly sanded the signs with sandpaper.
I sprayed outdoor sealant on the signs, nailed the post into the back, and stuck them near the front door.
