I’ll admit, our family loves the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey. While we have been to other aquariums in Maryland and the Keys, there have always been a few features of the Adventure Aquarium which have made it particularly special for us.
1. The Huge Selection of Interactive Touch Exhibits
Sea life is super cool to look at – but, if you want your kid to really deeply understand the biology of sea life, allow them to explore it with their senses. The Adventure Aquarium gives kids the opportunity to touch a wide assortment of sea life, including small sharks, stingrays, sea cucumbers, etc.
My boys loved petting a shark with Daddy!
2. The Ocean Realm Exhibit
When my oldest was a baby, my husband and I took him to the Adventure Aquarium and sat in the stadium seats in front of the huge Ocean Realm Exhibit with him for a loooong time. It is such a beautiful, peaceful exhibits, with large stingrays, Loggerhead and Green sea turtles and a variety of sharks and other fishes.
As my oldest has gotten older, the Ocean Realms exhibit has become one of his favorites, too. Mainly for one reason: The Great Hammerhead shark. He is obsessed with Hammerheads, and the Adventure Aquarium happens to be the only aquarium in the United States hosting one of these gorgeous creatures.
And now, we are adding a new favorite to our list –
3. Hippo Haven
We always loved the hippo area at the Adventure Aquarium, but the hippos were never in good viewing distance. The new Hippo Haven is AMAZING. Adventure Aquarium is the only aquarium in the world with a Hippo exhibit, and you can tell that Button and Genny, the hippos, were really enjoying their new home.
When we were at the aquarium, Button and Genny played together, twisting and twirling through the water. We couldn’t get over how close we were able to get to these majestic creatures, with just inches of glass separating us!
Watch them play!
The new lights and sounds added to the atmosphere. Gorgeous, right?!
Did you know the Adventure Aquarium offered so many unique experiences compared to other aquariums? What exhibit would you be most excited to see?
