I imagine I will hear this a lot around this place, as we are a hockey family (First month in this house, my husband damaged our garage door shooting a puck). When King Phekus and I first got married, I found a board book entitled the Z is for Zamboni: A Hockey Alphabet
that I bought and imagined that I would give him when I found out we were expecting our first.
(GROSS ALERT: Unfortunately, it did not work that well. We were in the Keys when I found out, and after eating at our favorite Mexican place I took a test, chugged a glass of milk (because that’s what pregnant women are supposed to do, right?), and vomited on the plant next to where King Phekus was talking to his college buddy on the phone. Nothing quite says “Honey I have big news” like projectile vomit, right?).
One day last week, Buddy needed an activity. So I grabbed two paint sticks and a roll of duct tape from the garage and created a game of Paint Stick Hockey. After practicing some shots on goal for a few minutes, Buddy challenged his daddy to a game. Daddy won. But we all won as the sound of laughter filled the house.
Make your own indoor hockey kit:
-
2 paint sticks
-
roll of duct tape
-
2 baskets
1. Decorate each paint stick uniquely – any way you like.
2. Make a wad of duct tape. Wrap more duct tape around the wad until it is the size of a plum.
3. Put baskets at either end of the room.
4. On your knees, stage a face-off. Rules are that a child must be on their bottom or knees. They must shoot the duct tape puck with their paint stick at the designated basket to score. First person to 5 wins!
What a cute (and creative) game!
This is a great game for those winter months when you can't get as much play time outside as you would like!
