…because it rarely fails – the beauty of the book is often lost on screen. Sometimes it is little things, like details left out of the plot, that drive me nuts. Other times it is casting – Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum, reeeaaaallly??!?? (And I like Heigl, I just don’t think of her as the quintessential “Jersey girl”, do you?)
Disney is one studio that rarely disappoints me in their remakes of books into movies, and I have high hopes for their February 17th adaptation of The Borrowers, entitled “The Secret World of Arrietty.”
The Secret World of Arrietty is the tale of a little person named Arrietty who lives under the floorboards of a home out of view of the family and housekeeper who also live there. She and her family remain hidden, except when they go on missions to borrow small household items (i.e., sugar cubes). She develops an unlikely friendship with the boy who lives in the house which must remain secret if Arrietty’s family is to remain safe. (As an FYI, the main character’s name is pronounced “Air-ee-ett-ee”. After reading the first three books of Harry Potter thinking that Hermione was pronounced “Her-me-own,” I now like to know pronunciations in advance.)
Disney has supplied me with some coloring sheets and puzzles to share with you so that you and your little ones can prepare for the big release. Below I have attached a link to the activity packet for your enjoyment!
