As I sit to write this post, I am reminded of why we want to give our kids a non-candy Easter this year. To my left is a container of Halloween candy sitting atop the washer.

Halloween candy! It is March!

Maybe the leftover candy would make sense if we had collected an abundance of candy, but truth be told, the houses here are spread out and the kids need to climb incredibly long driveways to get their loot. The boys usually bring a few of their favorites in their lunchbox as dessert and my husband steals all of the Reese’s and Snickers (and I might sneak a few Sour Patch Kids from the stash) – but overall we still end up with more candy than we will eat.

So, this year, we are making a game-themed, non-candy Easter basket for the kids that will encourage the kids to spend more time together. We like a variety of  games – traditional games and video games and active games…all are a go in this house! Here are a few of our favorite Easter basket suggestions for boys ages 4 through 10!

Lots of ideas to fill the kid's Easter Baskets with something other than Candy!

1. NERF N-Strike Dual Strike Blaster

We own several NERF products, but the Dual Strike is their absolutely favorite because it shoots both Elite AND Mega rounds. This toy is also really easy to load compared to some of the others we own.

2. Monopoly Empire

I am a long time Monopoly fan and we have 4 or so versions in the house. However, Monopoly Empire is the new favorite of both myself and my 7 year old (yes, it even beat out our Star Wars version!). From a parenting perspective, the game also has a clear, well-timed ending, and I appreciate that a round of my favorite game can be played in 20 minutes or so.

3. LIFE: Yo-Kai Watch version

As a child, LIFE was my favorite game. The Yo Kai Watch Game of LIFE doesn’t have much of a resemblance to the original, but it still was fun! The boys loved moving around the board collecting their medals.

4. Spring Themed Skylanders SuperChargers

We are Skylanders fanatics and we were so excited for the release of Skylanders Superchargers this past Fall. We love collecting the figures, and particularly seek out the special editions like the Autism Speaks releases or the holiday specials. Last year the boys searched high and low for the special Easter Trap Team releases, so as you can expect they were over the moon excited when Eggcited Thrillipede and Spring Ahead Dive Bomber showed up at the door! If you have a Skylanders fan, these special releases are a sweet way to welcome Spring to your home.

5. The Avengers: Trouble

Last week at a playdate, my four year old and his bestie sat down to play a round of The Avengers: Trouble. They both were able to play without adult intervention and they LOVED the little Avenger game pieces.

6. Buggaloop

We just got this Buggaloop game for my oldest’s birthday and it was an immediate favorite. Even the baby participates because he likes watching the Hexbug roam the board.

What will you put in your kids’ baskets this year?
