Disclosure: Our family was invited to the Wells Fargo Center to attend Monster Jam. The opinions expressed in this post are my own.
Let me say from the start – we are definitely not the parents who have their kids out for late dinners or nights on the town. Our kids like to put themselves to sleep around 7 PM and when we do go out to dinner, we are usually seated by 5.
That being said, occasionally there are things we want to do with our kids that keep them up past their witching hour…like fireworks in the summer…or like Monster Jam at the Wells Fargo Center. I’m going to share our tips for how we minimize the chances for a meltdown so we can enjoy special nights out together:
1. No Matter How Old We Are, We Nap.
Everyone puts their feet up. The boys always fall asleep and my husband and I fall asleep when we can. No nap, no special event.
2. We Eat Well – and Early.
Going to dinner? We snack lightly beforehand. Special night out on the town? We eat a full dinner before we go. Full tummies = happy boys.
3. Talk It Up.
We spend time talking about what they can expect to see at the event and talk about how good behavior will allow us to have late night adventures more often.
4. Know When to Quit.
Just because you pay for tickets doesn’t mean you need to stay until the end. We know to cut loose from the activity when the kids start getting annoying…because we know that means in a short time they will be in full meltdown mode.
The Monster Jam event at the Wells Fargo Center was the perfect place to enact our plan. The boys napped before we left tonight, ate a big meal, and knew what to expect when we got to the arena.
Little Guy is obsessed with superheroes, so he was excited to see the Spiderman (Fider Man) truck there.
Grave Digger is also always a crowd pleaser!
We had a great time!
