I love to watch transformation shows – home decor, design, and baking shows included. It amazes me how someone can take something like flour and eggs and turn it into something that looks like a piece of art. Any time I have tried to bake something beautiful, it has ended up looking like a Pinterest fail.
But not Duff. On Cake Masters this week he created the most epic of cakes – a Skylanders portal cake that brought the boys’ favorite characters to life. Of course the boys now want their mom to make one – little do they realize that I cook as well as I yodel – and I definitely am no expert yodeler.
The cake was seriously the most massive cake that I have ever seen, featuring Stealth Elf, Jet Vac, Eruptor, Spyro, and Kaos. The cake actually functioned as a portal, so when the character cake passed over the “portal”, it played on the screen.
Although the character cakes were all super cool, the boys loved Eruptor of course because his cake actually puked lava pudding…and anything with bodily functions is a huge hit in this house.
As I watched, all I could think was how cool must it have been to go to the viewing party and that the Activision offices look amazing!! It must be so energizing to work for such a successful company in a lively, playful setting.
To celebrate this Cake Masters episode and Skylander’s 5th anniversary threw a Skylanders-themed watching party – but the ideas here can be used for a Skylanders birthday party, too. Our friends at Activision sent over tons of favors and decor to help us get in the mood!
The boys wore masks throughout the show as they oohed and ahhed over the cake. My oldest chose Gill Grunt because he is his absolute favorite – even though I have never been able to find the character in store.
We used the medallions that came with the table decoration kit to keep tally of new characters mentioned in the episode by putting aside a “chip” for their element. The boys remembered most of them, but for the ones they forgot, they checked the character maps that came with the games.
Their favorite favor from the party were the bracelets with slogans from favorite characters. I mentioned earlier that the boys love anything to do with bodily functions. Are you surprised my oldest chose the “silent but deadly” band to represent Stink Bomb?
