Disclosure: I was provided with sample rolls of Smart-Fab to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

Remember a few weeks ago I shared ideas a tablescape for a Superhero party? Several readers asked about how I created the box that held the popcorn cones.

Superhero table

Displaying cones of food is an easy, festive way to bring some height to any party table. I started the project with a discarded box, a roll of blue Smart-Fab non-woven fabric, Duct Tape, newspaper comics, and wax paper.

Popcorn Smart Fab

Step 1:

Cut 15-20 2″ diameter holes in the bottom of the box with an X-acto knife.

Step 2:

Cover the bottom of the box with colored duct tape and then use scissors to recut the holes (do this second because cutting through the cardboard  and duct tape is very difficult otherwise.)

Step 3:

Wrap the rest of the box in Smart-Fab or duct tape. In the case of my box, I had 2 panels of blue Smart-Fab and 2 panels of yellow tape. I liked the contrast of colors and textures.

Step 4:

Using your Smart-Fab non woven fabric, cut out a cute saying. I chose Pop! because it connected the popcorn I was adding to the cones to the Pop! Bam! Wham! associated with superhero actions. One of things I like best about Smart-Fab is that it is easy to cut and does not fray like other fabric. Check out this video to see more!

Step 5:

Layer wax paper over a half sheet of newsprint. Roll into a cone so the wax paper is inside. Tape with gift-wrap tape and trim off any excess wax paper with scissors. This ensures that the food products do not touch your newspaper.

Step 6:

Run a strip of Smart-Fab party fabric down the center of the table to add color and pull the table together. Consider stenciling, drawing, or hole punching it for added pizzazz! Place your box on the table, fill it with popcorn, and EAT!
