Now that the boys are getting a little older (and a little less creeped out by Halloween), I have tried to have some fun with decorating the house. Little surprises have popped up in the last year, such as a cauldron to hold toys instead of a basket, or a candelabra on the mantel. This year, Oriental Trading Company helped me to focus on the outside of the house, with their HUGE selection of Halloween goodies to choose from on their site.
I totally plan on spooking a couple neighborhood kids this year with our LED Tree Ghost. This guy is totally going to scare a few neighborhood kids who come past the house! The red eyes fade from soft to bright – making for a totally eerie effect in the dark!
I already scared my 6 year old with a zombie groundbreaker. I hid him under the table in the craft room and made it look like he was clawing his way out of the room. Oh what a shriek! Outside, I put the zombie in the flower beds next to a tombstone (check out here for a similar tombstone)…how creepy is that!
Finally, a zombie flamingo will guard the candy. A piece of my heart is always in Florida, but living in PA a pink flamingo on the lawn will draw some confused stares. But a skeleton-zombie flamingo? I can get away with that here!
On a less spooky note, I did use some chevron burlap from oriental trading to make this cute, but simple, fall wreath. In under 10 minutes, I was able to wrap the burlap around a wire frame, staple it on the back, and a farmhouse-style wreath was born!
Did you know there are still 6 days to shop for Halloween with guaranteed standard delivery at Oriental Trading? I am lucky to be done for this year, but next year I have a whole list of other items I want. The skeleton dog, for instance, needs to come live with me! What have you done to make your house festive for Halloween this year?
