Disclosure: Kids Headquarters provided clothing items as part of this post. All opinions expressed within are my own and have not been influenced in any way.
As a self-professed nerd, I am really into the direction I see fashion going in 2016. I love that I see costume-like everyday dress wherever I turn, and am thrilled that costume play such as Disney Bounding are becoming popular ways for fans to express their appreciation for the art of literature and movies that they adore.
Kids Headquarters for Under Armour recently brought my boys’ favorite movies of all time to life in a collection of Star Wars inspired athletic and formal gear, comfortable for everyday wear, but unique enough to help the boys stand out in a crowd.
Tip #1: Wear a Saying
For many, many years – way before typographic tees were a thing – I have been a fan of interesting, witty, or offbeat sayings on shirts. Now, graphic tees with sayings are found everywhere, but in my opinion the best are ones that help you strike positive conversations or share your love for something in particular. One of my favorites to wear around says “Pasta to the People” which always gets some inquiries from fellow pasta lovers. This Under Armour May the Force Be With You long sleeve shirt is a subtle way for my middle guy to share his love of Star Wars.
Don’t you love the UA Tassle Beanie, too? His head and ears stay warm while his body can breathe in this crazy, crazy 80 degree winter weather.
The May the Force be With You shirt also comes in this vibrant orangey-red color, so he loved wearing it around the house over the holiday.
Tip #2: Go All Out in Costume
Another way to help kids share their personality and quirky favorites is to allow them to go all out in costume-like gear. This Darth hoodie is the perfect example of costume-ish clothing that is appropriate for school (without the mask and lightsaber, of course!).
We have several of the UA Alter Ego shirts that the boys wear as both costumes and school clothing and we love them. And, speaking from experience (bows head in shame), these are also great school alternatives for your little one who won’t take off their cape without a fight…if only I had found them 2 years earlier!
Tip #3: Throw on a Themed Tie
We are a casual bunch, so we don’t get dressed up too often. Occasionally we need something a little fancy for the holidays or a school concert, so we were excited to find that Kids Headquarters sent some dress shirts with Star Wars clip-on ties. I want my kids to stay kids as long as possible, so these classic shirts with quirky ties let them look a bit more formal while showing off their love of Kylo Ren. My oldest loved Kylo Ren in the latest movie, and I was surprised because he seemed more “dark” than previous Dark Side characters such as Darth. However, he also loved Rey, so I feel he redeemed himself with that choice.
They loved opening gifts at their grandparents’ house on Christmas in their snazzy shirts, even if they were wearing shorts because it was HOT!
We can’t wait to see how you help your kids share their best quirks in their style and dress this new year!
