Slowly (very slowly) but surely my dining room is coming together. With the exception of the tenure and promotion binders that have taken over the dining room table, the room is starting to look like somewhere you might want to eat. In past weeks I’ve shared the new paint, the DIY rug, and the Americana wall art that was created for the room. Today I want to share another wall art project I created using my Silhouette Cameo machine.
Living in rural{ish} Pennsylvania, we’ve tried to blend the rustic farmhouse look that is popular in the region with some more modern touches. So far we think the blend of styles gives the house a warmth that we don’t feel with strictly modern houses and a sense of currency that is sometimes missing in rustic design. Recently I had found a new shape in the Silhouette Online Store that I decided I HAD to use somewhere in my house. Check out Lori Whitlock’s 3 Mason Jars shape. Adorable, right?I
To make this mason jar wall art yourself, follow these steps:
1. Download the shape from the Silhouette Online Store.
2. Use Silhouette Studio to size the shape.
3. Set cutting blade to 1 so that it outlines the object, but does not cut it.
4. Load paper you want at the background of your art. I used a medium weight scrapbook paper. Hit “cut”.
5. Using the faint outline cut by the Silhouette Cameo blade, use a embroidery needle to “punch” holes around the outline.
6. Using gray embroidery thread, hand stitch the paper. Do not tug too hard on the thread or you might rip the paper. (Note: This did not happen to me, but I could see how too much force could ruin the project).
7. Trace the heart cut out onto a piece of yellow fabric. Layer a piece of burlap on top. Use yellow embroidery thread to hand stitch the burlap to the yellow fabric in a heart shape. Cut off the extra fabric.
8. Use a hot glue gun to secure the heart in place.
Happy crafting!
I love that shape. What a creative way to use the silhouette!
How cute! Thanks for joining in the Craft Cornucopia Challenge!
This is so adorable. I have a silhouette but have never thought of using it to make stencils for embroidery.
