Summer isn’t summer without some outside water fun, right? We’ve worked very hard to avoid play that involves weapon-like toys, which can be hard when you see store shelves stocked with all kinds of gun-like water shooters. Our 4 year old gets frightened easily (even Pete on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse frightens this guy – why, I am not sure. We’ll equate it to my sister’s childhood fear of Miss Piggy, or my fright during the movie Turner and Hooch.). In addition to being developmentally inappropriate for him to play weapons when he doesn’t understand the permanence of the damage they can cause, we don’t want him to become scared by this type of violent play.
Instead of arming the kids with water guns, we set up the kiddie pool or a bucket of water and allow them to use bath squirters to “attack” each other with water. Our favorites are the Nuby Fun Squirters, which come in a three-pack with an elephant, duck, and alligator. Easy to squeeze and easy to clean, they work for both outdoor and bath time play in our house!
These cute characters make for toddler-friendly water fights!
