Summer is basically here – I am off from my regular work schedule until late August and the boys are finishing up school this week. That means that soon we’ll pack up and head south for a month or so in the Florida Keys. Each year we pack our tiny Roku and bring it along with us for the trip so the kids can watch all of their favorite shows on Netflix while on the go.
We have found television in the Lower Keys to be a bit spotty, and after hours in the sun, we often just want to curl up with a favorite show or two before going to bed at 8 (if we make it that far!).
Summer Netflix for Mom and Dad
#1 Each year we save our episodes of Bloodline for when we get to the Keys. I usually end up freaking myself out, as the dark water, eerie mangroves, and more are literally in the backyard as we watch. But, we love the suspense and have our predictions about how Netflix plans to end the series this summer. Check out our tour of some of the most visible Bloodline haunts!
#2 Orange is the New Black is back! This is one of those shows that is SO HARD for me to wait to watch…I love the characterization of this show!
#3 Papa Hemingway in Cuba is on our streaming list for the summer, too! We are huge Hemingway fans, having read all of his works, visited his Key West home (a few times!), and met his look alikes at Sloppy’s for the Hemingway Days festival.
Summer Netflix for the Boys
#1 My boys cannot get enough of Skylanders Academy. They are huge fans of the toys to life game and have been spending these last few weeks of school testing out a few new Senseis that Activision sent for their review. Even the littlest one is getting in on the action now. After watching Skylanders Academy and getting a general sense of the story, he has been playing Skylanders Imaginators on the Wii U.
The boys were super excited about Blaster-Tron because he is a “light” sensei. They have told me that his laser sword is very powerful and that the light sensei has helped them unlock new areas in the game. Tidepool is a new water sensei and I liked how her weapons gave her some flexibility in the game.
The best part about the toys to life movement is that the boys play with their Skylanders figures outside of the game as well. The 6 year old and 3 year old set up battles and teams to work together and defeat the villains.
#2 Suckers is my Kindergartener’s new favorite show. Suckers is the story of the adventures of Travis, a stuffed toy that is stuck to the inside window of a car.
#3 We will be watching ALL the Pokémon on Netflix this summer, too. With so many series to choose from (Indigo League, XY, XYZ and two full movies), Netflix is our go to place to learn all about our favorite characters.
What are you most excited to watch on Netflix this summer? What new shows should I have on my list?
