It is Earth Day! We love the Earth every day but we are particularly thankful for the beautiful spring days after this horrible winter. I have paired up with We’re Parents and eight other bloggers to offer you recycling, craft, recipe, and gardening ideas as part of our Earth Day Extravaganza. Browse the posts below to get some ideas to make your Earth Day more memorable! And I can’t forget to mention – we also have over $950 in prizes that will be divided between 3 very lucky readers. Trust me, these prizes are AMAZING for any outdoor or gardening fan (you’ll have to wait until the end of the post to see what you can win!) Follow along using the hashtag #GrowingGreen and visit our Pinterest Board, Growing Green for Earth Day.

But before we get to the other #GrowingGreen posts, check out the Fairy Garden the boys and I made!
In my mind, one way to create appreciation for the Earth is to make it a bit magical for kids. When they see the outdoors as magical, they have an appreciate for all the little things that make our Earth wonderful.
We made a fairy garden out of recycled and natural materials found in our home and yard. We started by sculpting a fairy house, log, and swimming hole out of clay. We then took a frisbee that we received from a favorite restaurant in the Keys (they serve kids’ food on a frisbee and we have a half dozen or so) and filled it with dirt, onion grass, flowers (weeds), and nut shells. The boys took their time decorating to ensure it was beautiful for their yard fairies. We also filled the swimming hole with some water so that our fairies would have a place to dip their feet should they need to cool off.
The boys scoured the yard for things to make the home comfy for their fairies:
Then Little Guy pulled up a chair to “wait for the fairies to move in” (had to explain it might take some time to get him inside for dinner):
And, when walking back to the house, I found a piece of glass. It shimmered and reflected in the sunlight, leaving dancing flashes of light on the grass. Guess what the boys thought those lights were?
See, Earth Day can be magical!
